Multiple Close Matches Resulted in Losses at MEAC Roundups

Cary, N.C.- Coppin Women's Tennis showed face at MEAC Roundups for a three day tournament last week from Thursdsay, March 17 through Saturday, March 20. On day one, the Eagles matched up against South Carolina State in a 7-0 loss. Day two resulted in a 6-1 loss against North Carolina Cenral. Coppin closed out the MEAC roundups with a 6-1 loss to Norfolk State.  

Day one of MEAC Roundups started off withwith the duo of Christy Turner and Lucia Placidi matched up against Jade Houston and Laji Joao in first doubles in a 6-3 loss. Iva Jankovic and Megan Etienne had action second doubles loss against Maria Picazo and Kennedy Hill.  

In singles, Jancovic faced Hill in second singles. After a back and foruth first set, Jankovic dropped 7-5, and lost the second set 6-3.  

Eitenne played in fourth singles against Hill. After a 6-2 loss in the first set, she won four games in the second set.  

Turner won two games in the second set against Picazo in third singles for a two set loss.  

On day two against South Carolina State, Jankovic won a pair of matches in doubles and singles play.  Jankovic and  Etienne took on Teodora Vujicic and Nalanda Silva in first doubles, which resulted in a 6-4 victory for the Eagles duo.  

In singles, Jankovic won second singles in a tight two set match against Teodora Vujicic. Jankovic won the first set at 7-5. The second set was brought to a tiebreaker, where Teodora lost 6-8 for a 7-6 victory for Jankovic.  

Turner and Placidi won a pair of games in the set for a 6-2 loss to Lasya Patnaik and Anabel Aguiler at second doubles.  

Etienne faced Silva in fourth singles, where she won thee games per set.  

Turner totalled three game wins in a two set loss to Patnaik in third singles.  Mackenzie Jones won a game per set in loss to Ikram Rassif in number five singles.  

Against Norfolk State, the Eagles competed in a series of lengthy matches. Etienne crushed it in fifth singles, leaving her opponent scoreless in a 6-0 victory in both sets.  

Placidi played a three set match in second singles against Breana Cook, where she won the first set 6-4. Cook won the second set 6-0 before she won the tiebreak 7-2.  

Jankovic endured a three set match against Amber Fuller in first singles. After a 6-1 loss in the first set, Jankovic made a comeback and won the second set 6-4 before she lost the tiebreaker at 6-1.  

Turner matched up against Andrea Barcenas at number three singles. After a back and fourth first set, Turner dropped 6-4. She won five games in the second set for a 7-5 loss.  

Jones won three games in a two set loss in fifth singles.  

Up next: The Eagles return to Baltimore to face Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, March 23 at the McClure Tennis Center at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
