Cary, N.C.- Coppin Men's Tennis made their conference debut in MEAC Roundups for a three day tournament. After loosing to South Carolina State on Thursday, and North Carolina Central on Friday, the Eagles made a turnaround on Saturday with a victory over Norfolk State with a score of 3-2. Coppin is now 1-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
In the victory over Norfolk State started off with a pair of wins in doubles play. In first doubles, Luka Markovic and Sergiu Medesan faced Federico Rebecchini and Huge Lena Massoni in a close set that was brought into a tie breaker. Markovic and Medesan won the tiebreak at 7-4 for a 7-6 match win.
Vansh Kapoor and Dean Waterman defeated Roosevelt Brown and Abbas Ibrahim in second doubles at 6-2. After trailing 1-2, the Spartans duo struggled to break their opponents serve, as the Eagles duo went on a 5 game run to win the match.
The Eagles grabbed multiple wins in singles play. Kapoor defeated Abbas in third singles in a quick two set match, where he won the first set 6-2 and left Abbas winless in the second set at 6-0.
Waterman crushed fourth singles against Brown with a 6-1 win in set one, followed by a 6-2 win in the second set.
Medesan beat Massoni in second singles, with a 6-3 victory in both sets.
In day one of the MEAC roundups, Coppin men's tennis lost to South Carolina State on Thursday with a score of 7-0.
Luka Markovic and Sergiu Medesan matched up against Rostislav Haflinger and Ivan Pauluychenko in first doubles. The duo won three games in a 6-3 loss in the set. Vansh Kapoor and Dean Watermen played in number two doubles against Pedro Sasso and Zhanger Almashey in a 6-1 loss.
In singles play, Markovic faced Federico Rebecchini at number one singles. He led his team with five game wins, but lost both sets at 6-3 in the first and 6-3 in the second.
Kapoor played against Diego Araluz in fourth singles. He lost the first set 6-1, and won three games in the second set for a 6-3 loss.
Waterman won two games in number two singles, while Medesan won a game in third singles against Pauluychenko.
In day two of the MEAC roundups, Coppin lost to North Carolina Central with a score of 7-0.
First doubles featured Coppin's Dean Waterman versus Vansh Kapoor against Central's Amit Baran and Mile Clark. The Eagles duo grabbed a pair of wins in a 6-2 set loss.
In secoond doubles, Luka Markovic and Sergiu Medesan went up against Saarinen and Sebastian Pino. The Eagles let up their three game lead, and lost the match 6-3.
Medesan played a tight three set singles match against Baran in third singles. After loosing the first set 7-5, Medesan won the second set 6-3. Baran won the tiebreak 10-6 to sneak away with the win.
Kapoor matched up against Saarien in fourth singles in an extensive match. A back and fourth first set led to a tiebreaker, as Kapoor started off on a two game run. Saarien made a comeback and ended up winning the tiebreak 7-4. Kapoor lost the second set 4-6 to conclude the match.
Markovic saw action in first singles against Clark. He won a total of seven games in a two set loss of 6-3 in the first set and 6-4 in the second.
Waterman won three games in a loss to Pino in second singles.
