Fredrick, MD.- Kristina Georgieva won in her singles and doubles match as the Coppin Woman's Tennis team falls to Mount St. Mary 1-6 on Thursday afternoon.
In doubles play, Georgieva and Megan Etienne grabbed a win in third doubles 6-4 against Ana Alvarez- Storni and Ryan McCarthy. Alvarez-Storni and McCarthy were up 3 games to love, until Georgieva and Etienne won the next four games straight to get a 4-3 lead. Mount St. Marys won game 8 to tie with Coppin. Georgieva and Etienne pulled away with a pair of wins to secure the win.
Mackenzie Jones and Lucia Placidi won a game in first doubles, but lost the match 1-6, as well as Iva Jankovic and Christy Turner in second doubles.
In singles action, Georgieva won her match in two sets against Riya Mathur at number three. In the first set, Georgieva won the tie breaker 7-2 for a 7-6 win, and won the second set 6-3.
Jones faced McCarthy at number six in a three set match. Jones won the set first set at 6-2, but lost the second set 5-7. Jones fell to McCarthy in a heated back and fourth tiebreaker and lost 13-15. Turner also played a three set match against Adriana Barney in fourth singles. She lost the first set 4-6, but made a come back in set two with a 6-2 win. In the third set, she fell 1-6.
Jancovic won six games in the first set of second singles, but lost the set in a 7-2 tiebreak against Shirley Liang. She dropped the second set 3-6.
Placidi won three games each set in first singles against Amber Policare. In fifth singles, Etienne grabbed a pair of wins in the second set against Alverez-Storni after, but lost the set 2-6.
The Eagles are back in action against Lafayette in Easton Pennsylvania on Saturday, February 19th.
