Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Abigail Weiss

Men’s Tennis Falls to Mount St. Mary’s After a Series of Heated Matches

Fredrick, MD. - After a hard fight and three tie break situations, the Coppin State Men's Tennis team lost to Mount St. Mary's with a score of 7-0 on Thursday Afternoon.  

In doubles play, Sergiu Medesan and Vansh Kapoor faced Christos Dagklis and Russel Armstrong  in second doubles. Medesan and Kapoor were down 1-4 at the start of the match but won three straight games to tie at 4-4. The match went into a tiebreaker where the duo was up for the majority and won another three straight games to place them at a 6-3 lead over the Mount. Armstong and Christos made a comeback run and ended up winning the tiebreaker 9-7, to sneak away with a 7-6 match win. 

Luka Markovic and Anas Haddou won three games in first doubles against Elliot Stevens and Giovanni Abriola, but lost the match 3-6.  

In singles action, three Eagles advanced their matches to three sets.  Markovic engaged in a heated match versus Zachiotis in number two singles. A back and fourth first set lead to a tiebreaker, where Markovic won 9-7 to secure a 7-6 win in the first set. Zachotis made a comeback to win the second set 6-3. In the third set, Markovic won five games, but Zachotis ended up pulling away to win the set with a score of10-5.  

In fourth singles, Haddou lost 2-6 in the first set against Jarrett Karnibad. Haddou made a comeback to win the second set 6-4. After evening out in the majority of the third set, Anas lost the the set 7-10.  

Kapor played against Nick Huynh in the fifth singles. He lost the first set 2-6, but reversed the score in the second set to win 6-2. In the third set, Kapor won six games but lost 6-10. 

Medesan played a long first set in first singles against Stevens.  After trailing Stevens 5-3, Medesan won the next three games straight to force a tiebreaker. Stevens won the tiebreak, to solidify a first set win.  Medesan grabbed a pair of wins in a second set loss.  

Dean Waterman won a game in number five singles against Abriiola, but lost both sets.  

The Eagles are back in action hosting Navy on Saturday February 5, in Annapolis Maryland.
