CATONSVILLE, Md. – Coppin State's softball team was edged, 1-0 at UMBC before falling, 7-0 to Georgetown at the UMBC Round Robin on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles now stand at 0-3 on the season.
Vanessa Carrizosa had a great performance in the circle in the opener against the Retrievers, allowing just one run while striking out four. A sophomore from Moreno Valley, Calif., Carrizosa held the Retrievers scoreless until the seventh inning when UMBC won with a two-out walk-off single.
Brissa Alvarado was the lone Eagles player to reach base, advancing to first on a walk.
Olivia Edmondson pinch ran for Alvarado and stole second but Coppin was unable to capitalize with a runner in scoring position.
In the nightcap, Georgetown took a quick 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning before putting a four spot on the board in the second.
Jaslyn Sanchez singled for the Eagles in the third, but was left stranded, as the Hoyas put another run across in their half of the frame.
Alvarado singled to start the fourth and got to second on a groundout but was left stranded in scoring position.

Kayleigh Reome with one out in the third, retired both batters she faced in the inning before tossing a scoreless fourth.
Coppin was retired in order in the fifth as the game was called due to darkness.
The Eagles will face the same two teams on Sunday, February 27, starting with UMBC at 12 pm and Georgetown at 2 pm.
