Volleyball Falls at Delaware State in MEAC Championship Match

DOVER, Del. – Coppin State's volleyball team's bid at a MEAC Championship fell just short in a 3-1 loss at Delaware State's Memorial Hall on Sunday night.  The Eagles now stand at 23-10 overall and await a possible postseason bid. Following the Tournament, Andrea Tsvetanova and Ammaarah Williams were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Inside the Numbers
  • Yaniris Miller-Green led Coppin with 11 kills while Miajavon Coleman recorded ten kills, followed by Ammaarah Williams with eight to go with three blocks.
  • Andrea Tsvetanova notched a double-double with 27 assists and a team-high 11 digs to go with a pair of blocks.  Ashley Roman matched her with 11 digs.
  • Delaware State outhit Coppin, .250 to .054, recording 52 kills to CSU's 35.  The Hornets added 20 total blocks and recorded 59 digs to Coppin's 18.
  • In the final two sets, Coppin managed just 18 kills while committing 22 attack errors while the Hornets tallied 19 kills and seven total blocks in those frames.
How it Happened
  • Delaware State took control of the first set with a 6-1 run midway through, leading to a media timeout. The stoppage did not slow the Hornets' momentum as they scored ten-straight to take the opener, 25-11.
  • After hitting .000 in the first, Coppin hit .409 in the second with 11 kills on 27 swings while not recording an error.
  • Coppin went on a 6-0 run to take a 23-15 lead after DSU committed four-straight attack errors and never looked back.
  • In the third set, after a kill by Williams made it a 12-11 score in favor of DSU, the Hornets scored four-straight to pull away.
  • DSU scored the first four points of the fourth, but Coppin regrouped and tied the score at 10-10.
  • Five-straight Hornets points promoted a CSU timeout at 15-10 but another 5-0 run by DSU kept Coppin at bay.
