CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Mossi Staples and
Jalynda Salley each posted a game high 12 points, in a loss to Charlotte for the first road game of the season on Friday night at the Halton Arena. The Eagles are now 0-2 for the season.
Inside the Numbers
- Staples was the co-leading scorer with 12 points, while leading the team with two assists, and grabbed six rebounds
- Salley made 4-of-8 field goals to finish with 12 points
- Colleen Bucknor grabbed a team high seven rebounds and led the team with three steals
- Hope Evans chipped in five points for a 50 percent efficiency from the field
- Jewel Watkins led all players with two blocks, and tallied five rebounds
- Khya Jenkins also pulled down five rebounds for the night
- Alexandria Hamilton went 3-of-4 from the stripe
How it Happened
- Coppin started the game off on a 15-9 first quarter lead. Evans and Staples sunk a pair of threes before the team embarked a 7-0 run.
- The Eagles maintained a lead throughout the majority of the second quarter. Watkins and Staples hit a pair of jumpers in consecutive possessions to bring out the largest lead of the quarter.
- Trailing by one to the 49ers at the start of the second half (25-24), Charlotte went on an early 7-0 run.
- Salley scored a layup to silence Charlotte's run along with a free-throw made by Staples.
- Bucknor scored a lay-up in the fourth quarter to cut the 49ers lead to 10.
- Salley scored four straight points for Coppin to keep within radius of Charlotte in the fourth quarter
- Charlotte stretched to a 17-point lead and pulled away with a 57-38 win
