Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Coppin State's volleyball team matched a school-record for wins in a season after sweeping South Carolina State, 3-0 on Friday night at Dukes Gymnasium. The Eagles also guaranteed themselves their third-straight, and third-ever, winning season while standing at 16-8 overall with a league-leading 7-1 record in the MEAC.
Yaniris Miller-Green paced the Eagles with eight kills, followed by
Ahzhi Coleman with seven,
Geraldyn Palacios with six and
Ammaarah Williams with five.
Miajavon Coleman chipped in with three kills while
Andrea Tsvetanova,
Ayanna Pharoah,
Hope Casel and
Kiana Polk also got on the board with kills.
Tsvetanova and Pharoah split time at setter with Tsvetanova tallying 19 aces to Pharoah's seven. The duo quarterbacked the CSU offense to a .299 hitting percentage while holding the Bulldogs to -.113 hitting.
Tsvetanova, the NCAA leader in aces, added seven more to give her 78 on the season. Her 78 aces are the second-most in the MEAC since the NCAA went to a 25-point scoring system in 2008 and 17
th in the NCAA during that stretch. Pharoah added three aces of her own while
Genesis Hernandez,
Kennedy Beatty,
Zoe Chin and
Gabi Theut also recorded points in the service game.
On the defensive end,
Ashley Roman tallied a match-high 14 digs, just one shy of South Carolina State's total for the match. Williams and Tsvetanova were credited with four digs apiece.
The Eagles are back in action on Sunday, October 23 at North Carolina Central for a 1 pm start.
