Women’s Tennis Drops Season Opener at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Coppin State's women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 7-0 loss at Maryland on Saturday evening.   The match was played indoors at the JTCC.
 
In doubles play, Iva Jankovic and Megan Etienne dropped the first four games in the second spot before going unfinished.  The Eagles fell 6-0 at number one (Mackenzie Jones/Lucia Placidi) and number three doubles (Kristina Georgieva/Christy Turner). 
 
In singles play, Georgieva and Etienne led the Eagles by winning two games each per set.  Georgieva won four games against Mary Brumfield at number three.  Etienne faced Vera Markovic, the sister of CSU men's tennis player Luka Markovic and fell 6-2 in both sets.  At the number two spot, Jankovic fell 6-0 in the first set , but bounced back in the second set to take a pair of games against Big Ten All-Conference selection Jojo Bach. 
 
The Eagles are back in action next Saturday, January 29 at Saint Josephs.
