PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Coppin State's volleyball team will take part in the Sheraton University City Volleyball Invitational, hosted by Penn, on September 3-4 at the Palestra. The Eagles will go head-to-head with Canisius at 4 pm on Friday to open the Tournament before taking on Bucknell (4 pm) and the host Quakers (7 pm) the following night.

Last Time Out
Coppin is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Georgia Southern's Bash in the Boro where it swept former MEAC rival Bethune-Cookman in straight sets last Friday. The Eagles fell to host Georgia Southern, 3-1, and Presbyterian, 3-0, the following afternoon.
Miajavon Coleman led the Eagles attack with three-straight double-doubles, pounding 41 kills.
Sydney Hicks tallied 19 kills, followed closely by
Jordan Celestine with 17 kills and a team-high eight blocks.
Paola Caten added 16 kills in her two matches and
Ahzhi Coleman was credited with ten kills.
Andrea Tsvetanova saw the bulk of the time at setter, accumulating 7.20 assists per set, followed by
Kareemah Hopkins (2.86 per set) as the Eagles hit .144 for the Tournament.
On the defensive end,
Ashley Roman tallied 5.10 digs per set and passed Bailee Jackson for fifth place on CSU's all-time digs list with 866.
Miajavon Coleman put up 4.10 digs per set, and Caten added another 3.57 digs, followed by
Aislynn Weaver (2.22 per set). Celestine also moved up a spot on CSU's all-time list for blocks and now ranks fifth with 174.
Scouting Canisius
The Golden Griffins dropped all three of their matches last weekend at Michigan State's Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. Canisius dropped their opener to Wright State before falling to Michigan State and Western Michigan, all in straight sets.
With a 9-4 record last season, Canisius was picked third in the MAAC Preseason Poll while
Ella Loussia earned Preseason All-Conference honors. Loussia led the Griffins in kills last season and paced the team with 17 kills over the weekend.
Hannah Nelson added 16 kills in three matches and Kara Zaucha had ten more.
Avery Dole and
Ashley Kekeisen split time at setter while
Bree Long had a team-high 4.00 digs per set.
Elle Shult and
Emma Mans led Canisius with seven and six blocks, respectively.
Scouting Bucknell
Bucknell went 2-1 at the Delaware State Invitational with a five-set win over St. Francis Brooklyn in the opener and a 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's. The Bison fell to the Hornets, 3-0.
Lisa Zoch was Bucknell's go-to hitter and posted a pair of double-doubles. Zoch posted 21 kills against St. Francis to go with 13 digs before leading the team with 13 kills and 12 digs against DSU. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by first-year libero
Jordan Hardy who had 44 digs and five aces.
Sarah Ramirez was impressive at setter, recording 57 against St. Francis and 29 against the Hornets.
Scouting Penn
The Quakers are opening their season this weekend after the Ivy League announced that no intercollegiate competition would take place in the 2020 fall semester. Penn went 11-10 in the 2019 season and welcome back
Autumn Leak and
Margaret Planek, two of their top hitters from that season.
Kylie Kulinski returns at setter, as does top blocker
