Kaylah Castillo Finishes 9th Overall at MEAC Meet #1; Bowling Holds at 5th Place After Day Two

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kaylah Castillo averaged a 198.00 and finished ninth overall to lead the Coppin State bowling team in day two of MEAC Meet 1 on Saturday which featured traditional match play at Triad Lanes.
 
A junior from Orlando, Fla., Castillo recorded 990 total pins in her five matches, the second-best tournament average in her collegiate career (2020 TNBA HBCU Invitational; 993 pins/198.60).  Castillo rolled consecutive three 200-plus games with a 202 in a Bye, 210 against Monmouth and a 221 versus UAB.  Castillo opened the tournament with a 193 against North Carolina A&T before finishing the day with a 164 against Delaware State.
 
Logan Brown and Sydney Tyler also went over the 900-pin mark for the tournament, finishing in 14th and 16th place, respectively, with averages of 184.20 and 183.40.  Brown's high score was a 217 in the Eagles' victory over Monmouth while Tyler closed out her day with a 203 against UAB and a 213 and Delaware State.
 
Jazzleen McRae took 18th overall with an average of 178.00, rolling a high of 212 against Monmouth, and Aushia McLean rounded out the Eagles competitors with a 158.60 five-match average to place 21st.
 
Coppin opened and closed its day with losses against nationally ranked teams in No. 13 North Carolina A&T and 15th-ranked Delaware State. Following the match with the Aggies, the Eagles rolled an 876 in a bye match before defeating Monmouth, 978-903, as Brown, McRae and Castillo all rolled over a 200.  CSU was narrowly defeated by UAB, 978-911, despite a 221 by Castillo.
 
The Eagles sit in fifth place entering the third and final day on Sunday which will consistent of bracket style play. Through five baker matches and five traditional matches, Coppin has recorded 8,774 pins for a 175.5 average.
