ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Coppin State's women's tennis team dropped its march at Lafayette College, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Winning Touch Tennis. The Eagles now stand at 0-2 on the year while the Leopards are now 1-0.
Afruica Gentle and
Shariah Dunwell picked up the lone victory for Coppin on the day, a 6-1 win over McCormack/Sparhawk at No. 2 doubles. Unfortunately, Lafayette picked up the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the top flight over
Iva Jankovic and
Christy Turner.
Gentle forced a third set after taking the second set, 7-5, at No. 3 singles, but fell in the decider, 10-5. Turner also forced a tiebreaker in the second set in her match in the fourth spot, but fell 6-1, 7-6. Jankovic picked up four games at No. 1 singles.
The Eagles' match on Sunday, February 21 against La Salle has been canceled. Coppin returns to the court on March 16 against Loyola University Maryland.
