GREENSBORO, N.C. – Coppin State's bowling team sits in fifth place after the opening day of MEAC Meet #1 which was held at Triad Lanes on Friday. The Eagles dropped all four of its matches, two of which were against nationally ranked teams and two others who are receiving votes in the NTCA Poll.
The Eagles opened their day against Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) and led after the first three games. Coppin struggled in the fourth game and bounced back to take the fifth, but it was not enough to overcome the Blazers' lead after the fourth game. UAB took the match, 919-908.
CSU started strong in its match with Monmouth, taking the opening game, 180-46, and closed it out well with a narrow 192-189 defeat in game four and a 193-182 win in the fifth game. Monmouth built up a large lead after wins in the second and third game and took the match, 976-864.
Coppin began its third match of the day against 13
th-ranked North Carolina A&T with its best game of the day, defeating the Aggies, 212-207. The Eagles then dropped the next four games as the host team was victorious, 1,092-829.
The Navy & Gold rolled an 848 in its Bye and dropped the final match of the day to #15 Delaware State, 979-814.
Traditional play will be held on Saturday, February 20, followed by bracket style on Sunday.
