AMBLER, Pa. – Iva Jankovic earned a singles victory and the duo of
Shariah Dunwell and
Afruica Gentle combined for a doubles win as Coppin State's women's tennis team dropped its season opener at Saint Joseph's, 6-1, on Saturday night at Upper Dublin Sports Center.
Dunwell and Gentle opened the evening with a dominating, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles spot over Saint Joseph's Madeline Hill and Alex Kramer. However, the Hawks picked up the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the top flight over Jankovic and
Christy Turner.
Jankovic picked up a singles win at No. 2 with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-1 victory. Gentle was slotted in the third spot and dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker in the opening set. At No. 4 singles, Turner won three games in a pair of set.
Coppin State returns to the court on Saturday, February 20 at Lafayette.
