WASHINGTON, D.C. - Three Eagles scored in double digits, as the Coppin State women's basketball team fell to Georgetown 59-53 inside McDonough Arena. The Eagles are now 5-5 for the season.

Aliyah Lawson led all players with 16 points, with a season-high five made three-pointers.
Alexandria Hamilton and
Jewel Watkins scored 12 points each.  Hamilton had a game-high in free-throws made, with an efficient 6-of-7 from the line. Watkins hit three three-pointers and was the second leader in rebounds, with six.
Colleen Bucknor had a game high 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Mossi Staples led the Eagles in assists (five) and steals (three) along with seven points.
Jalynda Salley shot a team high 43 percent from the field to finish the game with six points and five rebounds.

Coppin and Georgetown battled in a back and forth first half of nine lead changes with mirrored rebounds and steals. Salley placed the Eagles at a strong start in the first quarter with a put-back, followed by a three from Lawson in under two minutes of play.  Buckner had six of her rebounds in the first quarter alone.

After trailing by five at the start of the second quarter, Watkins became a primary scorer for the Eagles, as she hit back-to-back threes and a layup to tie the score 20-20 to close the half.

The Eagles held a lead for the majority of the third quarter. Lawson had the hot hand in the third, as she accumulated 13 of Coppin's 22 points. After an opening jumper from Salley, Lawson hit three consecutive threes within the first five minutes of the quarter and solidified a five-point lead over Georgetown.  The lead was maintained by Staples and Hamilton as they took turns trips to the line within the last five minutes of the quarter.  Coppin led by one going to the fourth.

Georgetown embarked on a 10-1 run to start the fourth quarter.  The Hoyas run was deflated by a layup from Staples and another three from Watkins to cut Georgetown's lead to four.  In the Bulldogs attempt to pull away,
Alexandria Hamilton scored an and one layup and hit her sixth free-throw.  Hamilton snatched a steal in the following defensive possession, which led to a huge bucket from Salley off of a Staples assist, to put Coppin down one with 1:15 left. With under a minute left to go, Georgetown managed to get to the line three times, and snuck their way to a win.

The Eagles will return home to hosts Winthrop on Thursday, December 16 inside the PEC Arena.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
