GREENVILLE, N.C. – Nendah Tarke led all Eagle scorers as Coppin State men's basketball team fell 70-68 to East Carolina Saturday afternoon inside Minges Coliseum.
The Eagles move to 1-8 on the season.
Tarke scored a season-high 20 points with four assists, while
Tyree Corbett tailed 19 points with four rebounds.
Jesse Zarzuela dished in 13 with five rebounds and
Reggie James led the team in steals (3). It was an evenly matched game as the Eagles shot 31% from three's while ECU shot 39 %. CSU was also 13-16 from the free throw line.
Coppin opened the game on a 5-0 scoring run, but the Pirates answered back with a 9-4 run, then with 11:45 left to play the Pirates took a 17-15 advantage. Coppin stayed in the fight but saw themselves down 40-31 with 1:36 left in the half.
The Eagles opened the second half on a run only down two with 16:56 left to play. Back-and-forth points were exchanged before the Pirates were up 12 with 14:22 left in the game.
The Eagles then fought back from a late 12-point deficit to tie the game at 68 on a huge dunk from
Justin Steers. East Carolina's Tristen Newton made a jumper with two seconds left to make the difference in the 70-68 win.
CSU is back in action Wednesday, December 1 in Olean, New York taking on St. Bonaventure. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm inside the Reilly Center.
