FREDERICK, Md. – TaVera Johnson earned All-Tournament Team honors as Coppin State's bowling team finished fourth of eight teams at the season-opening Mount St. Mary's Shootout this weekend at Terrace Lanes. The Eagles finished with a 6-4 overall record, recording 8,119 total pins and a 162.4 average per game.
A freshman from Millersville, Md., Johnson finished fourth of 52 bowlers, recording 909 total pins and averaging a 181.80 per game. Johnson opened the Tournament with a 222 in a win over Pitt.-Greensburg, followed by a 183 against Felician and a 212 against Chestnut Hill.
Sophomore
Logan Brown and freshman
Temira White also placed in the top ten, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively. Brown averaged a 178.40 with a 201 against Pitt.-Greensburg and a 200 against Howard while White accumulated a 174.80 average which included a 230 against Mount St. Mary's. White's game of 230 was the third-highest game of any player in the Tournament.
Freshman
Jalyne Myers finished 13
th overall with an average of 162.20 while
Kaylah Castillo placed 20
th, tallying a 154.00 average.
In Sunday's Baker matches, Coppin dropped the opener to Kutztown, 848-747 before rebounding for victories against LaRoche (784-717) and Pitt.-Greensburg (777-732). The Eagles fell to Felician in back-to-back matches to close out the Tournament, 870-790 and 901-765.
After having off next weekend, Coppin returns to the lanes on October 29-31 at the Virginia Union Invitational held at Bowl America Short Pump in Glen Allen, Va.
