Women’s Hoops Drops Senior Day Matchup to Delaware State, 72-65

BALTIMORE – Coppin State's women's basketball team dropped a toughly-contested MEAC matchup with Delaware State, 72-65 on Saturday afternoon at PEC Arena.  The clash with the Hornets was the final home game for CSU seniors Chance Graham and Oluwadamilola Oloyede.

Inside the Numbers
  • Aliyah Lawson led all players with 19 points while Chance Graham and Alexandria Hamilton were also in double figures with 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
  • Jalynda Salley added eight points off the bench while Unique Meyers poured in a season-high seven points in her best game of the season.
  • Graham moved into fifth place on the CSU all-time scoring list with 1,325 points, passing Genesis Lucas ('18), Shalamar Oakley ('08) and Liesha Mitchell ('00) today.
  • Delaware State outshot Coppin, 55.3% to 43.1% and turned 18 CSU turnovers into 24 points.
  • Four Hornets finished in double figures, led by Sharajah Collin's 19 points.
How it Happened
  • Delaware State outscored Coppin, 22-11 in the opening quarter but the Eagles played virtually even with the Hornets in the second as the Hornets went into halftime with a 36-24 lead.
  • The Eagles lit it up from the floor in the third, scoring as many points in the period (24) as they did in the whole first half.
  • Trailing, 46-30 with 5:37 in the quarter, Jalynda Salley made back-to-back jumpers to cut the deficit to 46-32, before a three-point by DSU's Sharajah Collins.
  • Unique Meyers then had a nifty drive for a layup which was followed up by a 3-pointer from Chance Graham and a layup by Alexandria Hamilton to make it a 49-41 score with 2:15 remaining.
  • Meyers and Graham again answered a pair of DSU free throws with a pair of buckets with just under two minutes to play in the session and a layup by Hamilton just before the buzzer made it a 55-48 score going into the final period.
  • Aliyah Lawson opened the fourth quarter with a three with 8:43 remaining in regulation, making it a 55-51 score but Delaware State held off CSU on every occasion to earn the win.
Up Next: Coppin closes out the regular season with a pair of road games, starting with a trip to Morgan State on Saturday, February 29 at 2 pm.
