Delaware State Shoots Nearly 50% in Victory Over Men’s Hoops

DOVER, Del. – Coppin State's men's basketball team allowed Delaware State to shoot 49.2% from the floor in a 77-68 loss to the Hornets at Delaware State's Memorial Hall on Saturday afternoon.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Andrew Robinson made a career-high six 3-pointers to finish with 17 points while Koby Thomas added 17 points and Ibn Williams finished with 16 points. Both Thomas and Williams grabbed five rebounds with two assists while Thomas also had a block and three steals.
  • Dejuan Clayton and Brendan Medley-Bacon both chipped in with six points.  While Clayton dished out six assists with two steals, Medley-Bacon pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to go with three assists, two steals and four blocked shots.
  • Coppin shot just 38.5% from the floor and 11-of-37 from 3-point range.  The Eagles made all seven of their free throws in the second half but did not attempt a free throw in the second half.
  • Delaware State got 25 points from Pinky Wiley who made 11-of-15 shots and grabbed seven rebounds.  Myles Carter added 17 points and John Crosby finished with 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
How it Happened
  • Coppin got out to an early advantage and used a 10-2 spurt to jump out to its largest lead of the game at 19-11 at the 11:18 mark of the first half.  Koby Thomas scored the final five points of the spurt with a pair of layups, including a three-point play the old-fashioned way.
  • The teams traded baskets to keep it an eight-point game, but the Hornets pulled to within a single point and regained its first lead since the opening seconds with 5:01 left in the period at 28-26.
  • Delaware State led, 37-34 at the half as Pinky Wiley hit a runner in the paint as time expired, following a dunk by Thomas seconds before.
  • Brendan Medley-Bacon opened the second half with a dunk and Ibn Williams buried a three with 16:58 left, tying the score at 39.
  • The Hornets then hit back-to-back three's and built up a 68-58 lead with just under seven minutes to go.
  • Andrew Robinson then hit a pair of threes for Coppin to get the Eagles within 68-64 with 5:52 remaining but CSU got no closer the rest of the way.
