DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Double-doubles by Coppin State's
Jalynda Salley and
Chance Graham went for naught as the Eagles fell at Bethune-Cookman, 82-51, on Saturday afternoon at Moore Gymnasium.
Inside the Numbers
- Jalynda Salley led Coppin with 15 points and 11 rebounds to record her third double-double of the season.
- Chance Graham and Aliyah Lawson chipped in with ten points apiece as Graham pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds to go with three blocks.
- Oluwadamilola Oloyede finished with seven points and Alexandria Hamilton added five more.
- Bethune-Cookman outshop Coppin, 42.9% to 31.1% and scored 18 points off 15 Eagles turnovers. The Wildcats also accumulated 19 second-chance points and got 17 points from Amaya Scott.
How it Happened
- Bethune-Cookman scored the game's first seven points before Oluwadamilola Oloyede got Coppin the board with a layup at the 7:51 mark.
- The Wildcats then went on a 13-0 run over the next 2:40 to extend their advantage to 20-2, but Coppin scored six-straight with Jalynda Salley scoring four of them.
- Salley answered a Wildcats basket with a three-point play but Bethune led, 28-11 after the first.
- Both teams hit a pair of free throws to start the second quarter as Coppin played virtually even with the Wildcats and went into the break trailing, 46-28.
- Coppin nearly matched Bethune in the third quarter but was unable to dig into the deficit and the Wildcats pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Eagles, 18-8 in the final period.
