BALTIMORE – Coppin State's volleyball team went on an 8-0 run to win the second set but fell to Loyola University Maryland, 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-11, 25-21) on Tuesday night at Reitz Arena.

First Set
- Coppin hung on early on went on a 3-0 run to tie the score at 10-10.
- Loyola bounced back with three-straight points to force an Eagles timeout, but the stoppage did not stop the Greyhounds' momentum as the hosts took the set, 25-13.
- The Eagles hit -.111 for the set compared to a whopping .360 for Loyola.
Second Set
- The second set started out much like the first as the Eagles hung on with their local rivals and held a couple of one-point leads.
- After Coppin retook a lead at 8-7 with an ace by Asia Stennis, Loyola scored five-straight to go up 12-8 and force an Eagles timeout.
- CSU battled back to pull within two points, but Loyola stretched the lead to as many as 21-16.
- With the hosts leading, 23-17, Coppin went on a 4-0 run with a pair of kills from Miajavon Coleman to force a Loyola timeout.
- Lauryn Harrell and Jordan Celestine combined for a block out of the break and Coleman followed up with a pair of kills, giving the Eagles a 24-23 lead to force another Greyhounds timeout.
- The Eagles won the set, 25-23, on a block by Coleman and Celestine to wrap up an 8-0 run.
Third Set
- Loyola got off to a strong start, taking a 5-2 lead forcing a CSU timeout, but the Greyhounds continued their strong play and pulled away with a 9-1 run at the tail end of the frame.
- Coppin allowed Loyola to hit .500 for the frame as the Green & Grey recorded 15 kills compared to just three errors.
Fourth Set
- Both teams fought for position early in the set but a 5-1 Loyola run gave the Greyhounds a 15-11 lead and forced a Coppin timeout.
- The Eagles continued to show fight and scored three-straight points to pull within a single point.
- Loyola built its lead back to 19-16, but CSU pulled within one a couple more times but could not get over the hum to tie the score.
- The 'Hounds took the frame 25-21.
Inside the Numbers
- Miajavon Coleman finished with a team-high ten kills to go with seven digs and a pair of blocks while Jordan Celestine added six kills to go with a match-high four blocks.
- Asia Stennis returned to the lineup and played a key role on both sides of the ball, tallying four kills, four assists, six digs and a block.
- Christa Johnson and Lauryn Harrell also added a couple blocks apiece and Ashley Roman was credited with a team-high 15 digs.
- Brianna Lang was the lone setter for CSU on the night and she notched 21 assists along with three kills and four digs.
- CSU hit just .032 for the match compared to .209 for the Greyhounds.
Up Next: Coppin plays in its final regular season tournament this weekend at the Morehead State Invitational on September 20-21. CSU faces Marshall and the host Eagles on Friday before clashing with Southeastern Louisiana at 11 am on Saturday.
