NORFOLK, Va. – The Coppin State men's tennis team's season came to an end with a 4-0 loss to top-seeded South Carolina State in the First Round of the MEAC Tournament Thursday afternoon.
South Carolina State earned the doubles point with victories in the second and third flights, defeating
Quincy Pettis and
Zaipo Oula, 6-3 at No. 2, and the duo of
Henrique Sada and
Prabh Bal, 6-1 in the third spot. Coppin's top combination of
Jorge Rodriguez Rey and
Sam Scala-McNeill held their own in the top slot and trailed just, 5-4 when the Bulldogs clinched the point.
In singles play, the southern division winners got quick victories at Nos. 4-6, besting Bal, Oula and Pettis, respectively.
Rodriguez Rey was tied at 3 in the second set after falling, 6-0 in the first. Scala-McNeill won four games in the first set before falling.
