HANOVER, Md. – Coppin State's baseball team was shut out by Delaware State, 10-0 in the opening game of a three-game MEAC series on Friday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.

Inside the Numbers
- Coppin collected just two base hits on the day, coming from Justin Banks and Derek Lohr. Nazier McIlwain and Corey Treyes also drew walks to account for the only other Eagles to reach base safely.
- Jahmon Taylor took the loss, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven in 6.0 innings. Lucas Richards was charged with five earned runs while Bradley Tuttle threw the final inning and gave up one run.
- Garrett Lawson allowed just two hits and two walks while fanning 14 for the Hornets who got three RBI from Jared Gillis.
How It Happened
- Rain delayed the start of the game 52 minutes and Jahmon Taylor struggled with the damp field early as he hit the first batter and gave up a bunt single to start. After a sacrifice bunt, a wild pitch allowed the Hornets to take a 1-0 lead.
- Justin Banks singled in the bottom of the first but Garrett Lawson struck out the side.
- Both teams went scoreless in the second and third innings with Taylor striking out a pair in the third before giving up a leadoff home run in the fourth, making it a 2-0 game.
- DSU added two more runs in the fifth to go up 4-0 before going down in the sixth which was Taylor's final inning.
- Lawson continued to cruise through the CSU order and he got extra insurance as the guests erupted for six runs in the top of the seventh.
- Nazier McIlwain and Corey Treyes drew walks in the seventh but a double play ball ended the game.
