Women’s Hoops Look to Win Third-Straight in Regular Season Finale at Morgan State

The Coppin State women's basketball team looks to close out its regular season with a third-straight victory as it makes the crosstown trip to archrival Morgan State on Thursday, March 7.  Tipoff from Hill Field House is set for 5:30 pm and can be heard on WNST 1570 AM and Fox Sports Williamsport.

  • Coppin State leads the all-time series, 41-37. Morgan State has won three straight over the Eagles, including a 74-57 victory earlier this season at Coppin State (2/2).
 
Coppin State News & Notes
  • Despite its record, Coppin might very well possess the top 1-2 punch in the conference with Brooke Fields and Chance Graham. The duo has combined for 32.9 points per game, good for nearly 57% of the team's total points this season.
  • Brooke Fields leads the team with 17.3 points this season, but has increased that to 20.4 points in conference games which ranks second in the MEAC. Fields is coming off MEAC Player of the Week honors on Feb 26 after averaging 20.0 points and 9.5 assists while making 17-of-18 FTs in games against Howard and DSU. This included setting a career-high and PEC Arena record with 11 assists against Delaware State.
  • Brooke Fields recently scored her 1,500th career point on January 19 at NC Central. Fields played three seasons at Division II Roberts Wesleyan in Upstate New York and scored 1,226 points in three seasons.
  • Chance Graham is having another superb season, averaging a double-double 15.6 points and 11.8 rebounds. Her rebounding numbers lead the MEAC and are 10th nationally. Graham also ranks among the conference leaders with nearly two steals and 1.4 blocks per game.
  • Graham is rapidly climbing several of Coppin's all-time record charts. She became the 15th Lady Eagles player to score 1,000th career points last game at Delaware State. After the win over the Hornets, Graham now ranks second in school-history with 875 rebounds, just 33 shy of Rene' Doctor's school-record of 908.
  • Graham has been named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week five times this season and also earned Co-Player of the Week honors on December 18.
  • Jalynda Salley was just named the MEAC Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week after putting up a game-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting in a win at Norfolk State. This came after her performance against Howard and Delaware State where she scored a season-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with 10 rebounds against the Bison.
  • Kaiya Coleman is closing out her collegiate career with a bang, scoring in double figures in each of the last five games, averaging 11.6 points in those games. She's made 16-of-28 (57.1%) 3-pointers in those games.
 
Scouting Morgan State
  • Morgan State (9-20, 7-8 MEAC) ended a four-game losing skid, by stunning Maryland Eastern Shore with a 57-53 victory on Monday.
  • Adre'onia Coleman led Morgan State with a game-high 19 points, while Naomi Bolasingh added 13 points in the win.
  • Coleman has paced the Lady Bears this season, averaging 16.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. 
  • Ashia McCalla is adding 9.7 points, while Jihayah Chavis is contributing 9.1 points and leads the team in both assists (70) and steals (62).
