Softball Drops Pair of Games at Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – Coppin State's softball team dropped a pair of games at Hampton University on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Pirates Softball Field.  Hampton took the opener, 8-0 before winning the nightcap, 11-2.
 
The Basics
  • Final Score: Coppin State 0, Hampton 8

How it Happened (Game 1)
  • Hampton jumped out to an early 7-0 lead with seven runs in the first and it added another run in the second to go up eight runs.
  • Coppin mustered just two hits, both by Cloe Ochoa.
Inside the Numbers (Game 1)
  • Madison Didion allowed six earned runs in the first and Lexi Flom replaced her, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out two in the final three innings.
  • Flom retired the last seven batters she faced.

How it Happened (Game 2)
  • Hampton started off the nightcap much like the opener, scoring four runs in the first two innings.
  • Coppin's bats finally got going in the third on RBI singles by freshmen Melanie Aguilera and Brissa Alvarado, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
  • The Pirates got both of those runs back and added another in their half of the third to increase their advantage to, 7-2, before going for another four runs in the fourth to put the run-rule into effect.
  • CSU put a runner into scoring position in the top of the fifth but came up empty.
Inside the Numbers (Game 2)
  • The freshman trio of Melanie Aguilera, Brissa Alvarado and Desiree Carrizosa all had hits while Nia Bowe provided the other hit for Coppin.  Alvarado and Carrizosa also drew walks to reach safely twice in the game.
  • Alvarado allowed just six earned runs in her 4.0 innings on the rubber.
