UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – The Coppin State men's tennis team dropped its season opener to UC Riverside, 7-0 on Monday afternoon at Watkins Tennis Bubble.
Jorge Rodriguez Rey and
Sam Scala-McNeill got the Eagles off to a good start, defeating Riverside's top doubles pair, 6-4. The duo of
Henrique Sada and
Zaipo Oula fell by an identical score and the Higlanders earned the doubles point.
UC Riverside got the win in all six singles flights. Rodriguez Rey won four games in each set in a 6-4, 6-4 loss. Sada won two games at No. 2 while Scala-McNeill and Oula each won a single game.
CSU returns to the court on Sunday, February 24 at Lafayette College.
