Coleman, Graham Score 16 Points Apiece in Women’s Hoops Loss at Maryland Eastern Shore

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Kaiya Coleman and Chance Graham scored 16 points apiece while Graham notched her 30th career double-double in a 74-54 loss at Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday afternoon at Hytche Center.

How It Happened
 
First Quarter
  • Maryland Eastern Shore scored the first basket of the game but Chance Graham gave Coppin a 3-2 lead at the 8:11 mark.
  • UMES answered with nine-straight points but CSU cut the deficit to 13-8 after Oluwadamilola Oloyede dropped in a layup followed by a three from Maraiyah Smith.
  • The Hawks then went on an 11-0 run before a layup by Brooke Fields but UMES led 27-10 after the first.
Second Quarter
  • The teams played dead even in the second period as they scored 11 points apiece and the Hawks led 38-21 after 20 minutes of action.
Third Quarter
  • CSU fought back and outscored UMES, 15-10 in the period to pull within 46-36 with ten seconds left on a free throw by Tsahai Corbie.  That would be as close as the Eagles would get the rest of the way.
  • Ciani Byrom nailed a jumper as time expired to put the Hawks up 48-36 going into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
  • UMES extended its lead to as many as 23 points.
  • Kaiya Coleman scored nine points in the period with three 3-pointers.
Inside the Numbers
  • Kaiya Coleman finished with a season-high 16 points while making 5-of-8 from three-point range.
  • Chance Graham also scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season and 30th of her career.
  • Graham now has 960 career points (16th all-time at CSU) and 844 rebounds (3rd all-time).
  • Brooke Fields chipped in with seven points and three assists while E'Mya Price added six rebounds and a season-high six assists.
  • Four Hawks finished in double figures, led by Ra'Jean Martin with 16 points.  Ciani Byrom tallied 15 points, seven rebound and seven assists.
Who's Next?
Coppin State heads back to Baltimore and will host Howard for Homecoming on Saturday, February 23 at 2 pm.  Two nights later, the Eagles host Delaware State for Senior Night at 5:30 pm.
