PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Coppin State's women's basketball team dropped its season opener, 107-33 to perennial power Rutgers University on Saturday afternoon at the RAC.

First Quarter
- Rutgers got out to a 7-0 lead until Oluwadamilola Oloyede put Coppin on the board with a putback layup with 7:37 remaining.
- After a couple of baskets from the Scarlet Knights, Aliyah Lawson buried a three to pull CSU with 11-5.
- A pair of threes by Marley Grenway kept Coppin close but RU doubled up the Eagles, 12-6 over the final 3:25 to lead 32-17 after the first.
- Coppin made 50% of their shots in the period (7-of-14), but Rutgers was even better, making 12-of-18 (66.7%).
Second Quarter
- Coppin missed its first 13 shots of the quarter and did not score until Unique Meyers hit a jumper with 42 seconds to go.
- Aliyah Lawson made 1-of-2 free throws late in the period as Rutgers outscored Coppin, 25-3 and took a 57-20 lead into halftime.
- The Scarlet Knights made 7-of-16 shots compared to just 1-of-14 for the Eagles.
Third Quarter
- Chance Graham scored the team's first five points of the quarter, but Rutgers extended the lead with a 14-0 run until Oluwadamilola Oloyede hit a layup at the 4:21 mark.
- Aliyah Lawson hit another three with just under two minutes to go, but Rutgers took an 82-30 lead into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
- Jalynda Salley made a layup with 1:27 remaining for the first CSU points of the quarter as Rutgers went on a 20-0 run to start the period.
- Coppin's only other points came on a free throw by Diamond Adams with just under a minute left.
Inside the Numbers
- Oluwadamilola Oloyede led Coppin with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting along with nine rebounds while Aliyah Lawson added seven points, three rebounds and two assists.
- Marley Grenway hit a pair of threes for six points and Chance Graham went for five points, three steals and a blocked shot. E'Mya Price was credited with a team-high three assists.
- Rutgers outshot Coppin, 52.7% to 26.8% and held a 38-22 advantage in rebounds.
- CSU committed 20 turnovers which led to 30 Rutgers points and the Scarlet Knights had 25 fastbreak points.
