BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State women's basketball jumped out to an early advantage but could not hold off a second half charge from the Spartans as the Lady Eagles dropped a tough one, 68-63.
Chance Graham secured her ninth double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) of the campaign while
Brooke Fields continued her torrid stretch with a game-high 21 points.

How It Happened
First Quarter
- Coppin State rode the hot hand of sharp-shooter Brooke Fields as she connected on three consecutive triples to give the Eagles a 11-2 early edge.
- Norfolk State used three-pointers to claw back to within one as Kendrea Dawkins drained a pair to make it 11-10 CSU.
- The quarter remained tightly contested at 16-15 Coppin, before Tsahai Corbie dropped five points with Chance Graham adding a free throw to give the Lady Eagles a 21-15 first quarter lead.
- DeWayne Burroughs' club made every pass matter to begin the game, with its first six baskets coming via an assist, and four of those came from Corbie alone.
- CSU was shooting the lights out of the gym in the first, making 8-of-15 shots from the floor for a field-goal percentage of 53.3%.
Second Quarter
- A 5-0 surge from the get-go for Coppin ballooned the lead to 26-15 after Graham buried a three-pointer.
- Six straight points from the Spartans close the gap back to within five, 26-21, CSU.
- The remaining 5:32 was evenly played by both sides, with the Lady Eagles holding a slight 10-8 upper-hand heading into the halftime locker rooms, 36-29 Coppin State.
Third Quarter
- Norfolk came back out and made a huge run, outscoring Coppin 20-3 to swing the pendulum in favor of the visitors, 49-39 Norfolk State.
- The Eagles got the better of the Spartans over the final two minutes of the quarter, scoring four points to the Spartans' two, to find themselves down eight going into the finale.
Fourth Quarter
- A three-pointer from NSU's Alexys Long got Norfolk's cushion up to 14 at 66-52 with 3:07 left to go.
- A frantic comeback attempt from the blue and gold was aided by an 11-2 rally to end the contest, but Coppin could not complete the turnaround, falling by a final score of 68-63.
Inside the Numbers
- Coppin got plenty of assistance from guards Brooke Fields (5) and Tsahai Corbie (4) as they paced the team to a season-high 14 assists in the contest.
- After pulling down 10 more rebounds, Chance Graham has now moved into fifth place among the Coppin State rebounding greats with 735 boards. She cruised past Bridgid Mitchell (728) and will set her sights on the fourth-place spot, held by Yvette Larkins at 757.
- Graham upped her double-double total to 9 for the season while recording her third game of 20 or more points to go along with 10 or more rebounds in 2018-19.
- Senior guard Brooke Fields has been sensational over her past nine appearances, averaging 19.6 points per game after dropping a game-best 21 points on the day.
- Fields has been the master of finding the open woman of late as well, posting 5 or more assists in three of her previous six games.
- Tsahai Corbie had a breakout performance of her own, notching a season-high four assists all coming within the opening eight minutes of the ballgame.
- Corbie was an all-around contributor for the Lady Eagles, providing seven points and tying a season-best rebounding mark of four.
- Norfolk State's offense was fronted by Alexys Long (19), with Kendrea Dawkins (18) and Danyael Goodhope (12) able to accumulate solid numbers as well.
- NSU had a similar outburst in the assist category, tallying 20 along the way as Dana Echols (6) joined Long (5) and Dawkins (4) in leading the charge.
