ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Coppin State's softball team dropped its opening game of the MEAC Tournament, 4-1, at South Division Champion Bethune Cookman on Wednesday afternoon at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The Eagles will take on the loser of the Hampton/Savannah State matchup on Thursday, May 10 at 12 pm in an elimination game.
The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead and the score remained that way until the sixth when
Nia Bowe tied the score with one swing. A freshman from Milford, Del., Bowe slugged her Coppin single-season record 11
th home run to straight-away center field to tie the score.
Bethune Cookman responded, however, retaking the lead on a triple by
Iesha Waters, her second RBI of the game to score
Ryan Jackson who was plunked to lead off the frame. The Wildcats added two more runs after that to take a 4-1 into the seventh.
Madison Didion allowed four runs on eight hits while striking out four in the complete game loss.
Bowe finished 2-for-3 for the Eagles while
Megan Narvaez had the only other hit for Coppin State.
