BALTIMORE, Md. – Madison Didion pitched a pair of complete games as the Coppin State softball earned a key split of a doubleheader at MEAC rival Morgan State on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles won the opener, 1-0, before dropping the nightcap, 3-0.
Didion allowed just three hits in the game one shutout while fanning seven batters. At one point, the junior from Montesano, Wash., retired 11 straight batters before allowing a one-out single in the seventh.
Coppin's game-winning run came in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Megan Narvaez which scored pinch runner
Hatika James.
Haley Bravo singled to start the frame and reached second on a throwing error before advancing to third on a passed ball. James then replaced Bravo before Narvaez' shot to left field which was deep enough to score James.
Didion allowed just three runs in the second game but the Eagles were unable to get her run support.
Patricia Soria recorded two of CSU's five hits in the nightcap as Morgan State got single runs in the first, third and fifth innings.
The Eagles (13-21, 9-7 MEAC) will be back at Morgan State for the rubber game of a three-game MEAC series on Sunday, April 29 at 12 pm.
