BALTIMORE, Md. – The Coppin State softball team left ten runners on base and fell to Hampton University, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 12-20 on the year and 8-6 in the MEAC while the Pirates improve to 19-20 with an 8-4 mark in conference play.
Hampton put up unearned runs in both the first and fifth innings off starting pitcher
Madison Didion who threw her third complete game of the three-game series. Didion finished the day allowing zero earned runs while striking out six.
CSU was finally able to get on the board in the seventh inning on an RBI double by
Cayla Brown which scored
Patricia Soria from second. Soria got a rally started with a two-out single through the right side before
Nia Bowe drew a walk.
Allyson Babinsack then got the final batter to ground out to seal the win for Hampton.
Brown went 3-for-3 with two doubles for the Eagles while Soria also recorded a pair of base knocks. Bowe finished 1-for-1 on the day with a single, a walk and was also hit by a pitch twice.
