How It Happened

First Quarter
  • The two teams were equals throughout the first quarter, as six ties paved the way for a deadlock 13-13 first quarter tie.
Second Quarter
  • Coppin State and Ohio struggled tremendously to begin the second, with Ohio missing its first four shots and Coppin committing four turnovers over the first two minutes of the quarter.
  • OU was able to build a 21-17 advantage, until Fields had five unanswered points to take back the momentum 22-21.
  • A triple from Maraiyah Smith was the final field goal from the floor in the first half for CSU, but the Bobcats went 9-4 from then on to take a 30-26 upper-hand into the half.
Third Quarter
  • OU used the home crowd to its advantage, receiving an opening spark to go on a 10-0 surge to take the wind out of the Eagles sails, 40-26.
  • Ohio continued to pour it on with 16 of the next 24 points going to the home team, and the Bobcats took command, 56-34.
  • Coppin was able to muster up only four more points over the remaining 4:21 and went into the final quarter down 26, 64-38.
Fourth Quarter
  • Two straight three-pointers by Fields and Chance Graham to begin the fourth got the deficit back within 20, 64-44.
  • This would be the closest the Lady Eagles would get for the remainder of the contest, as the navy and gold were outscored 23-18 in the last nine minutes of the final frame as it fell 87-62.
Inside the Numbers
  • Coppin State were doubled up in the turnover category, committing 31 to Ohio's 15 which was a key difference down the stretch.
  • The Cats averaged a point per turnover, converting 32 points from Eagles miscues while getting a huge contribution off the bench with 31 points coming from its reserves.
  • Kaiya Coleman, sitting at 5-5, held a rebounding clinic for the Athens crowd, shattering her previous career-high (9) with 12 rebounds on the day, with six apiece coming on the offensive and defensive sides of the court.
  • CSU got a huge boost offensively from Brooke Fields as she had her best performance as a division 1 athlete by far, pouring in 26 points to top her previous season-high of 19 at Marshall last weekend.
  • Fields was efficient, converting 56% of her shots including 4-of-6 from three-point land.
  • Maraiyah Smith had her second double-figure contest in her past three appearances, putting together a season-high 12 to go with three assists and a steal.
  • Diamond Adams was doing her best Steve Nash impression, dishing out a team-leading four assists on the afternoon, quadrupling her season total (1).
  • Four separate Bobcats posted 10 or more points on the day, as Gabby Burris (19) paced the squad, followed by Amani Burke (18), Kendall Jessing (14), and Dominique Doseck (10).
  • Cierra Hooks was a thorn in the Eagles' sides, picking off five of the team's 13 steals and providing six assists.
  • Burris was Ohio's top rebounder with only seven, however all 11 players who entered the contest for the green and white recorded at least one board.
