Hot-Shooting Wofford Rolls Past Men’s Hoops

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coppin State's men's basketball team allowed Wofford College to shoot 52.2% from the field and 50 percent from three in a 99-65 loss to the Terriers Wednesday night at Richardson Indoor Stadium.

How It Happened:
First Half
  • Coppin held a 4-2 lead as Cedric Council recorded the team's first four points but Wofford went on a 17-1 run over the next seven-plus minutes to take a 19-5 lead with 11:07 remaining.
  • Dejuan Clayton stopped the run with a layup and Nigel Marshall buried a three to cut the lead to 21-10 with just under ten minutes left but that was as close as the Eagles got the remainder of the game.
  • Wofford led, 45-23, at the break after shooting 51.5% from the field while limiting Coppin to just 30% from the floor.
Second Half
  • Marshall and Lamar Morgan combined for nine of the half's first 13 points to bring Coppin to within 48-33 with 17:05 remaining.  Morgan's threat the 17:05 mark was his 100th career 3-pointer.
  • Three minutes later, Wofford was able to extend its lead back to above the 20 point mark to seal the victory.
Inside the Numbers
  • Three Eagles scored in double figures, led by freshman Nigel Marshall who poured in a season-high 13 points off the bench on 6-of-9 shooting.
  • Cedric Council added a season-high 11 points, matched Dejuan Clayton with a team-high five rebounds and also led the squad with three assists.
  • Lamar Morgan chipped in with ten points and in the process made his 100th career three-pointer in just his 37th game with the Eagles.
  • Wofford outshot CSU, 52.2% to 39.0% and sunk 13-of-26 from downtown.  The Terriers also outrebounded Coppin, 44-28.
  • Four players scored in double figures for Wofford, led by Cameron Jackson with 20 points.
