Volleyball Begins Seven-Game Homestand With Morgan State And Rider

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Coppin State volleyball program begins a stretch of seven consecutive home games on Thursday against Morgan State. The Eagles will not have to leave the friendly confines of the PEC Arena until Halloween night when it travels to Fairleigh Dickinson.
 
What You Need to Know Coppin Contributors
  • Brianna Lang has been rock solid as of late, recording four double-doubles in her last seven matches.
  • Miajavon Coleman recorded her first career double-double versus Howard on Sunday, notching 14 kills and 10 digs.
  • Coleman is currently riding a six-match streak of double-digit kills, including eight of the team's past nine matches.
  • Lang is averaging 8.37 assists per game coming into the match, the third best average in the MEAC.
  • Miajavon Coleman and Asia Stennis both pop up on the MEAC leaderboard for kills per set, as Coleman is fifth with 3.29, while Stennis is ninth with 2.82.
  • Coppin as a team has the fifth best hitting percentage in the MEAC (.149), which is led by Coleman (.247) who is also fifth in the conference as well.
  • Libero Chelsie Kolibar is currently tenth among the conference leaders, coming in with 2.82 digs per set. She has contributed 10 or more digs in seven of CSU's last ten games.
  • Christa Johnson has surpassed last season's block total (45) with a quarter of the season remaining, pacing the Eagles with 48.
  • The Lady Eagles as a team are sitting 11 blocks behind last season's mark of 116 going into the final 11 matches of 2018.
Scouting the Morgan State Bears
  • Morgan State has broken even so far in the 2018 season, splitting its two conference games as well as its 16 non-conference tilts.
  • MSU has been a staple among the top of the MEAC leaderboards this season, leading the conference in hitting percentage (.217), assists per set (11.35), while currently second in kills per set (12.21).
  • The Bears have been among the nation's best behind the serving stripe, placing in the top 15 in total service aces (111).
  • The service masters for the Lady Bears are Zoe McBride and Roi Wallace, as they lead the MEAC in aces (27) while falling just inside the top 25 nationally.
  • Morgan has an offensive playmaker in three-time MEAC Co-Player of the Week Cristen Coryatt. She resides inside the top three in the MEAC with 3.71 kills per set and 4.18 points per set, along with sneaking into the top ten in hitting percentage (.216).
  • Roi Wallace sits alone in the number one spot for conference setters, sporting a 10.08 assist per set average.
Scouting the Rider Broncs
  • Rider has had an up-and-down 2018, alternating wins and losses over its last eight matches.
  • The Broncs have been consistently in the upper-echelon of the MAAC, as it presently sits inside the conference's top three in hitting percentage (.187), opponents hitting percentage (.190), blocks per set (1.84) and service aces per set (1.52).
  • The Broncs main weapon so far has been preseason All-MAAC Hailey Riede. The senior Right Side Hitter places among the MAAC's top performers in points per set (3.44), kills per set (3.17), and hitting percentage (.274).
  • RU also employs another threat in two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week Anilee Sher. She places first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at 0.49 aces per set and third with 9.37 assists per set.
