HAMPTON, Va. – Despite a fourth-straight double-double by
Chance Graham, the Coppin State women's basketball team fell at MEAC rival Hampton, 67-35, on Wednesday night. The Eagles now stand at 6-15 overall and 5-4 in the MEAC while the Pirates improve to 9-11 with a 5-2 mark in conference play.
A sophomore from Upper Marlboro, Md., Graham led all players with 18 points and 17 rebounds on the night. Graham made 6-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line and seven of her rebounds came on the offensive end.
Graham was the only Coppin player in double figures as
Candice Beverly was next on the team with five points.
Genesis Lucas finished with four assists, two blocks and three steals.
Beverly put Coppin on top, 2-0 with a jumper in the paint but Hampton was able take the lead with a three on the ensuing possession. The score remained close but after Graham hit a pair of free throws with 3:24 left in the first to cut the deficit to 12-10, Hampton closed out the period on an 11-2 run.
Hampton outscored the Eagles, 17-3 in the second to take a 40-15 halftime lead and never looked back.
Four Pirates scored in double digits, led by Jephany Brown with 16 points.
Coppin will continue its three-game road trip at Bethune Cookman on Saturday. February 3 at 2pm.
