West Hartford, CT - Coppin State Volleyball (0-16) head home from a 3-0 loss to the University of Hartford (3-11). The Lady Eagles lost in straight sets 23-25, 15-25, and 19-25. Coppin was led by
Asia Stennis (11 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks, 6 digs) and
Marlena Guice (6 kills, 1 ace, 1 block, 5 digs).
The first set started off very contested as both teams traded points until the score was evenly matched at 5. The Lady Eagles would then go on a 4-1 run that included multiple kills by
Bailee Jackson from
Angel Jamerson. With a 9-6 lead, Coppin would increase the lead to 11-7 after a block by Stennis and
Elanna Nellis. The Lady Eagles maintained the momentum and kept a four point differential with a 16-12 score. Hartford would tie the score at 16 after a four point run. Coppin responded by going on a three point run after a
Christa Johnson kill from
Dominique Madarang. With a 19-16 lead, Coppin would then be be outscored 4-9 to close out the fist set 23-25.
The second set saw the Hawks of Hartford take a 11-4 lead before Coppin started chipping away. The Lady Eagles would outscore the Hawks 6-3 to narrow the Hawks lead 10-14. From that point, Hartford went on a 5-11 run to seal the second set 15-25.
In the third set, Hartford was leading 5-1 before Coppin battled their way back into the match. The Lady Eagles would start a 7-1 run that was a total team effort to give Coppin an 8-6 lead. Hartford would tie the score but Coppin would benefit from a service error and a Stennis kill from Madarang to keep a 10-8 lead. Hartford would again battle back and tie the score at 12 and then take a 12-15 lead. Coppin would slow the Hawks momentum briefly and close the gap 14-15. But Hartford would prove to be too much and go on a 5-10 run to close out the set and match.

The Lady Eagles look to snap a twenty game losing streak dating back to last season as they begin conference play Friday, September 29 at 6pm when they travel to Virginia to play Norfolk State and Hampton University Sunday, October 1 at 3pm.
