WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore
Hatika James had her second home run of the season leading Coppin State softball to a 9-5 win at Howard University on Sunday, April 9
th at the Nationals Youth Academy.
The Eagles move to 5-30 overall and 3-6 in the conference while Howard drops to 1-24 overall and 1-8 in the MEAC.
Coppin State tied a season-best with nine RBIs and struck out a season-high nine batters.
Sophomore pitcher
Madison Didion (5-15) led the Eagles to victory striking out a season-high eight batters in 6.2 innings. Didion walked a pair and gave up eight hits. At the plate, freshman
Kimberly Evans finished with three hits tying a season-high performance. Evans two RBI was a season-best. Freshman
Haley Bravo had her first double of the season and tied a season-high with two RBI.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Evans scoring
Nicole Ullman. Howard tied it up with two hits and a run in the bottom of the inning, but a huge third inning for CSU gave them a four run cushion.
Narvaez led off with a walk and then freshman
Cloe' Ochoa doubled to center field. With the bases loaded freshman
Patricia Soria singled to right field scoring both Narvaez and Ochoa. Freshman
Haley Bravo added to the Eagles advantage with a 2-RBI double to left field scoring Soria and Ullman (5-1).
Bravo had her second hit of the game in the fifth inning singling to left field followed by a single to left field by Evans. In the next inning the Eagles sophomore
Hatika James had her second home run of the season leading off the sixth inning (6-1). The second run of the inning came on an Ullman RBI single scoring freshman Isabella Didio (7-2).
Howard cut into the Coppin State lead with two runs on three fielding errors and one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. CSU answered back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. Evans had her third hit singling to left field scoring Bravo. Then, Narvaez singled to right field scoring freshman
Arianna Alderete. That was Alderete's fourth run scored of the season.
The Bison scored two final runs in the seventh inning as the Eagles held on for the weekend series win downing Howard, 9-5 in game three.
Next, Coppin State will host Drexel University in a mid-week non-conference matchup on Thursday, April 13
th at the CSU Softball Field.
