HANOVER, Md. – Sophomore pitcher
Jahmon Taylor led Coppin State to a game two win over Maryland Eastern Shore, 1-0, on Saturday, April 8
th at Joe Cannon Stadium. The Hawks won game one 4-3.
Coppin State improves to 6-20 overall and 5-6 in the MEAC while Maryland Eastern Shore falls to 6-23 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
The Eagles drew a team-high nine walks and converted on four sacrifice hits in a game one loss to the Hawks. On the mound Coppin State struck out a season team-high 12 batters but only came up with six hits in a 4-3 loss.

Krystian Negron struck out a career-high 11 batters, sophomore
Caleb Duhay tied a season-high with three walks with a season-best two runs scored and freshman
Anthony Martinez had a pair of sacrifice hits.
Coppin State took a 1-0 lead after the second inning. Duhay led off drawing a walk and then senior
Clinton Arnold singled down the left field line. Both runners advanced on a groundout by Martinez and then freshman
Allen Saar RBI singled to left field scoring Duhay (1-0).
The Hawks answered with two runs on two hits in the third inning. Coppin State came up with one hit in the fourth by junior
Brett Helmbrecht singling up the middle to the outfield. In the fifth inning, Martinez tied the game at 2-2 scoring on a wild pitch.
Sophomore
Nazier McIlwain was next and blasted a double to right field for CSU's fourth hit on the afternoon.
Once again the Hawks reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning (3-2) and then tacked on an extra run in the eighth inning for a two run lead over the Eagles. It came down to the final inning for Coppin State trailing Maryland Eastern Shore, 4-2.
Duhay led off the bottom of the ninth inning drawing his third walk and then advanced to second on a single to left field by Arnold. Then, Martinez advanced both runners on a sacrifice hit towards the pitcher. Senior
Bryant Miranda trimmed the deficit to one run with an RBI single to shortstop beating the throw to first base allowing Duhay to score. The final out of the inning occurred on the next batter with the Hawks holding on to win game one, 4-3.
Clinton Arnold led the Eagles at the plate with two hits,
Nazier McIlwain had a double base hit and both
Bryant Miranda and
Allen Saar each recorded an RBI.
Caleb Duhay scored a pair of runs and
Anthony Martinez recorded his first run scored of the season.
Krystian Negron went 7.0 innings retiring 11 Hawks with strikeouts. He allowed six hits with only one walk and relief pitcher freshman
Corey Treyes tossed the final two innings striking out one batter.
In game two, the Eagles came up with the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Malik White singled up the middle leading off the sixth inning and then
Clinton Arnold drew a walk. The Hawks made a pitching change and then
Anthony Martinez took the plate. Maryland Eastern Shore gave up the lone run of the game two on a fielding error by the infield with Martinez reaching first base and Arnold scoring with two outs.
Starting pitcher
Jahmon Taylor and the Eagles defense ended the game in the seventh inning with Coppin State tying the weekend series, 1-1, with a 1-0 victory. Taylor went a complete 7.0 innings for the first time in his career striking out four batters, walking one with no runs allowed.
Bryant Miranda and
Malik White both had two hits in the later game with
Anthony Martinez recording the game winning RBI on
Clinton Arnold's run scored.
The teams will return to action for a single game at Joe Cannon Stadium on Sunday, April 9
th at 10 am.
