HANOVER, Md. – The Eagles finished with a season-high five doubles led by senior
Clinton Arnold in a 7-5 conference loss to Norfolk State University on Monday, April 3
rd at Joe Cannon Stadium. Coppin State falls to 5-17, 4-5 record.
Arnold finished with a career-high two doubles totaling four bases. He was one of three Eagles to record multiple hits. Sophomores
Nazier McIlwain and
Erik Crossman also had a pair of hits.
The Spartans led 1-0 after the first inning and then tacked on three runs at the top of the sixth inning. Coppin State's first run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior
Bryant Miranda pinch hit and connected on a double to left center field. Sophomore
Jamar Criss reached on a throwing error by the Spartans infield as Miranda crossed home plate.
The Spartans came up with two runs in the eighth inning off of three hits. The Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the eighth cutting the Norfolk State advantage to one run.
McIlwain led off singling through the left side and then advanced to second on a single by Crossman. Then, Criss doubled down the right field line for an RBI scoring McIlwain. The second run occurred on a junior
Brett Helmbrecht's RBI grounded out allowing Crossman to score and then freshman
Corey Treyes doubled to left center field sending Criss home for the third run.
With the Eagles trailing by two runs, Arnold made it a one run game with an RBI double to center field scoring Treyes for the fourth run.
Norfolk State scored an insurance run in the ninth inning taking a two run lead (7-5). Crossman had the Eagles only hit of the ninth inning as Norfolk State held on for the sweep of the MEAC weekend series.

Jacob Lewis (2-3) tossed 5.1 innings striking out two batters and walking three. Sophomore relief pitcher
Jahmon Taylor went a 3.2 innings striking out a career-high four batters.
Coppin State returns to the field on Wednesday, April 5
th at Navy for a 3 p.m. start.
