BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore pitcher
Madison Didion tossed a complete game striking out five batters in an 8-1 victory over Norfolk State University on Thursday, April 26
th at the CSU Softball Field.
The Eagles improved to a 4-9 MEAC record. Didion earned her seventh win of the season going 7.0 innings and only giving up three hits.
At the plate for Coppin State sophomore
Cayla Brown gave homered for the fourth time this season and finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Sophomore
Megan Narvaez also garnered three RBI on one hit. Freshman
Cloe' Ochoa had two hits with a team-high two runs scored.
Coppin State got off to a quick start with a home run in the bottom of the first inning.
Cloe' Ochoa drew a walk and then Brown homered over the left field fence. The Spartans scored their only run in the third inning.
Junior
Camille Ochoa led off the fourth inning with a single to right field and then advanced to second on a single to center field by sophomore
Nicole Ullman. Both runners moved on a wild pitch and then pinch hitter freshman Isabella Didio loaded the bases drawing a walk at the plate.
Narvaez blasted 3 RBI doubling to right center field scoring all three runners giving CSU a 5-1 advantage. Next, Cl. Ochoa singled to shortstop and then stole second base. Brown continued her stellar day with an RBI single to left field scoring Narvaez.
Sophomore
Dakota Gartrell returned the favor bringing in Ochoa for the Eagles' seventh run on a sacrifice fly ball to right field. The Eagles finished with five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth.
Narvaez tied a career-best with three RBI and Cl. Ochoa tied a season-best with two runs scored.
The teams will battle in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 27
th at noon at the CSU Softball Field.
