HAMPTON, Va. – Coppin State softball battled Hampton University in a doubleheader on Friday, April 22
nd. The Pirates won both games with a 5-4 decision in the early game and a 9-1 victory in the later game.
Coppin State falls to 6-37 overall record with a 4-8 MEAC record.
The Eagles tied a season-high with three stolen bases in game one against the Pirates. Freshmen
Cloe' Ochoa,
Patricia Soria and
Haley Bravo each stole a base.
Coppin State outhit Hampton 6-5, paced by sophomore
Cayla Brown's two RBI performance. Despite the advantage at the plate the Pirates scored three runs in the first inning and one run in both the fourth and fifth innings to down Coppin State 5-4.

Madison Didion (6-18) fanned five batters and walked one in 6.0 innings.
Junior
Camille Ochoa RBI singled to right field in the fourth inning scoring Soria who singled to shortstop to get on base. The Eagles came up with two runs in the fifth inning thanks to a single to center field by Brown that brought in both Ochoa and sophomore
Megan Narvaez.
CSU's final run of the early game came in the sixth inning on three hits. Bravo led the inning off with a single to shortstop and then sophomore

In the second game of the doubleheader Coppin State scored their lone run in the third inning thanks to three errors by Hampton.
Bravo led off reaching on an error and then advanced to third base on a bunt by James.
Megan Narvaez hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field scoring Bravo.
Coppin State had only three hits compared to 12 by Hampton. Sophomore
Dakota Gartrell,
Hatika James and
Camille Ochoa recorded the Eagle hits. The Pirates got off to a fast start with six runs in the first inning, one in the second inning and two in the sixth inning.
Both teams will conclude the weekend MEAC series with a single game scheduled for April 22ns at the HU Softball Stadium.
