BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman
Kimberly Evans finished with a season-high three RBI against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday, April 18
th at the CSU Softball Field. The Mount swept the doubleheader 6-5 in game one and 18-0 in game two. The Eagles fall to 5-34 overall record.
Sophomore
Madison Didion (5-17) had three strikeout while walking none for the Eagles. Mount St. Mary's scored three early runs in the first inning against the Eagles. Coppin State quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to trim the deficit.
Megan Narvaez led the bottom of the first inning off with a double to left center field. Cloe Ochoa was next and singled down the right field line and then both runners scored on a sacrifice fly deep ball to center field for two RBI by
Kimberly Evans.
Patricia Soria had the Eagles third hit of the inning with a single to center field.
CSU took the lead with three runs on three hits and a fielding error by the Mount.
Camille Ochoa got the bottom of the second inning rolling with a single to shortstop.
Hatika James was next and reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on a single to center field by Narvaez. Cloe Ochoa walked and then both Narvaez and James scored runs on an error by the defense as Brown reached first base. Their third run came on a single past the pitcher by Evans scoring Cloe Ochoa.
Bravo singled to right field in the third inning while both
Cloe' Ochoa and
Cayla Brown singled in the fourth inning. Mount St. Mary's scored one run on two hits in the fifth inning. The Eagles came up with nothing in the bottom of the fifth and a single to the shortstop in the sixth by Brown.
A rough seventh inning for the Eagles defense allowed two runs to cross home on three hits. Starting pitcher
Madison Didion was replaced by freshman
Shelby Spaziani as the Mount took a 6-5 advantage. In the bottom of the seventh inning for the Eagles nothing was produced as the Mount came from behind to down CSU in game one 6-5.
Megan Narvaez, Cloe Ochoa and
Cayla Brown all had two hits in game one. Narvaez had a double and scored two runs. Ochoa also scored a season-high two runs and drew two walks while Brown came up with two RBI.
Kimberly Evans came up big hammering in a season-high three RBI and
Hatika James also scored a run.
In game two of the double header, Mount St. Mary's blanked the Eagles 18-0 on 14 hits. Coppin State finished with four hits paced by freshman
Patricia Soria's two hits including a double. Camille Ocha and freshman Isabella Diddio had the other hits for Coppin.
Coppin State returns to action on Wednesday, April 19
th with a doubleheader against Saint Peter's University at the CSU Softball Field beginning at 2 p.m.
