BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore infielder
Megan Narvaez led Coppin State to their first home win of the season with a walk-off single to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning defeating Lafayette, 3-2 on Saturday, March 4
th at the CSU Softball Field.
Coppin State (2-12) hit their first homer of the season and also tied a season-high with five strikeouts. The Eagles also picked up their second non-conference win of the year (defeated Southern in season opener).
Sophomore pitcher
Madison Didion tossed her third complete game of the season tying a season-high with five strikeouts. She walked one and gave up six hits in her second win.
At the plate, Narvaez had her first career homerun as an Eagle finishing with a career-best three RBIs against the Leopards totaling six bases. Currently, she leads Coppin State with a four-game reached base streak.
Sophomore infielder
Cayla Brown had the Eagles first hit of the game in the fourth inning doubling to left-center. In the fifth inning, Sophomore infielder
Hatika James led the inning off with a single to left field and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by junior pinch hitter
Camille Ochoa'.
Next, Narvaez came to bat and went yard for the first time in her career with a homer over the right field fence. Coppin State led 2-0 after the fifth.
Lafayette went into the final inning down two runs. Coppin State almost gave the game away with a hit and a defensive error that led to two runs. The Leopards tied the game in the top of the seventh inning on a two run double to center field.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, junior catcher
Nicole Ullman drew a walk to get things going. She quickly advanced to second base on a passed ball and then freshman pinch runner
Cloe' Ochoa replaced her on the bases. With only one out in the bottom of the seventh and a runner in scoring position Narvaez approached the plate with the momentum on her side.
After a 2-2 count, Narvaez doubled to left field on the fifth pitch thrown her way sending Ochoa home for the game winning run. Coppin State won their first home game of the season 3-2 over Lafayette.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday, March 5
th with a double header scheduled for noon at the CSU Softball Field versus Marist.
