Eagles Baseball Falls to Harvard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior Brett Helmbrecht went 2-for-3 at the plate with a season-high two singles in a  14-3 loss for Coppin State against Harvard in Washington, D.C. at the Nats Youth Academy on Friday, March 3rd.
 
Coppin State committed a season-high five errors while Harvard homered twice. HU had one run in the second inning, two in the third, five in the fourth, one in each of the next four innings and closed it out with two runs in the ninth inning.
 
The Eagles finished with six hits led by Brett Helmbrecht. On the mound, sophomore Aaron Rea earned his second loss of the season tossing four innings while striking out three batters. Relief pitcher freshman Anthony Martinez went 3.2 innings also striking out three and junior Delvin McFadden went 1.1 innings fanning three batters.
 
After Harvard took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a home run to right field, the Eagles responded with three hits leading to two runs in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Jamar Criss singled up the middle followed by a walk by freshman Corey Treyes. With two runners on Helmbrecht singled through the left side loading the bases for senior Clinton Arnold.
 
Arnold hit an RBI single to center field scoring Criss. Sophomore Erik Crossman was next for the Eagles and sacrifice flied out to right field allowing Treyes to score giving CSU a 2-1 lead.
 
In the fourth inning, Helmbrecht had his second hit of the night with a single to right field. Senior infielder Bryant Miranda singled to third base in the sixth inning and in the seventh inning junior outfielder Andres Santana hit an RBI groundout scoring Isaiah Wilson who singled to third base leading off the inning.
 
Coppin State returns to the field on Saturday, March 4th at 5 p.m. for an afternoon matchup against Lafayette College.
