EMMITSBURG, Md. – Freshman
Haley Bravo had a career-high three hits with a pair of RBIs against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, March 29
th at Meadows Field. The Mount won both games against the Eagles, 4-1 in game one and 8-7 in game two.
Coppin State falls to 3-22 overall record and Mount St. Mary's moves to 8-18 record. Sophomore infielder
Megan Narvaez led Coppin State in game one with a pair of hits to go along with an RBI while Bravo carried the load in game two with her breakout game.
In game one, Narvaez RBI singled to third base in the fifth inning scoring sophomore DH
Hatika James for the Eagles only run of the afternoon. Mount St. Mary's scored two runs in the first and one run in the third and fourth innings. Both teams finished with six hits apiece with Narvaez leading Coppin State with a 2-for-4 performance.
On the mound, sophomore pitcher
Dakota Gartrell (0-3) went 6.0 innings striking out two and walking two batters.
Sophomore infielder
Cayla Brown had the Eagles first hit of the game doubling to center field in the fourth inning. That was Brown's sixth double of the season. In the fifth inning, James led off with a walk and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior outfielder
Camille Ochoa. Freshman catcher
Kimberly Evans singled to center field sending James to third and then Narvaez blasted her RBI single.
Haley Bravo singled to right field in the sixth inning while Ochoa singled to shortstop in the seventh and Narvaez singling to shortstop for her second hit of the game.
Despite their fifth inning run, the Mount held onto their early four run lead to down the Eagles 4-1 in game one.
In the second game of the double header, sophomore
Madison Didion (3-11) went 4.2 innings for the Eagles retiring four batters and walking only one on a heartbreaking 8-7 defeat. Sophomore
Shelby Spaziani pitched in relief going 1.1 innings surrendering one hit.
The Eagles came alive in the third inning with five hits leading to five runs. Narvaez reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second on a single to right center field by Gartrell. Then Brown RBI singled to center field scoring Narvaez tying the game at 1-1. Freshman
Camille Nowak recorded her first RBI of the season with a single up the middle scoring James putting CSU in front (2-1). Freshman
Haley Bravo brought in the third run with her first RBI of the game singling to first base scoring Brown (3-1).
Coppin State's next run of the inning came on a triple by freshman
Patricia Soria allowing Nowak to score (4-1). Finally Soria crossed home for the fifth run on a wild pitch.
The Mount came back with two runs in the bottom of the third inning but still trailed 5-3. The Eagles added on a run in the fifth inning on an RBI single up the middle by Bravo scoring Brown extending their lead to 6-3. Brown tied a career-high with two runs scored. In the bottom of the inning, Mount St. Mary's came up with five runs to pull ahead 8-6.
In the sixth inning, CSU trimmed the Mount's advantage to a single run with a bases loaded hit by pitch RBI by Brown sending
Camille Ochoa home. Freshman infielder
Cloe' Ochoa singled to right center in the seventh inning for the Eagles only action of the inning. The Mount's defense held onto their one run lead and swept the Eagles with a victory in game two, 8-7.
Coppin State heads to Newark, Del. for a double header on Thursday, March 30
th at Delaware. The games are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. against the Blue Hens.
