DOVER, Del. – Coppin State baseball dropped the third game of the weekend series against Delaware State University 15-5 on Sunday, March 26
th at Soldier Field.
Coppin State falls to 5-13 overall record with a 4-2 MEAC record.
Sophomore DH
Jamar Criss and senior infielder
Bryant Miranda both had a pair of hits against Delaware State. Criss went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Mirada went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Sophomore catcher Mailk White tied a career-high with a pair of RBIs and sophomore infielder Nazier McIlwain finished with a hit and a run scored.
Sophomore pitcher
Aaron Rea (1-3) was issued the loss going 2.0 innings striking out four batters and walking three. Relief pitchers sophomore
Jahmon Taylor and junior
Delvin McFadden both seen action with Taylor tossing 3.0 innings fanning two batters and McFadden pitching 1.0 innings striking out one batter.
Delaware State came out with five runs in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third, and three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings against Coppin State. The Eagles scored five runs in the seventh inning on four hits but the 15 run advantage was too much to overcome.
Freshman pinch hitter
Liam Bloom singled through the right side for his first career hit as an Eagle. Miranda drew a walk as the next at bat and then McIlwain RBI singled up the middle scoring Bloom for CSU's first run of the afternoon. Criss followed with an RBI single up the middle scoring Miranda for the Eagles next run. McIlwain crossed home on a passed ball and then White blasted a two run single through the right side allowing Criss and sophomore
Erik Crossman to score.
Coppin State won the first two games of the weekend series but falls to 4-2 in conference play after their recent defeat. Up next, the Eagles head to Towson University for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 29
th at 3:30 p.m.
