GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Coppin State softball team suffered a pair of losses at the Pirate Invitational to Seton Hall (10-1) and Virginia Tech (10-0) on Saturday, February 25
th at the ECU Softball Field.
The Eagles went up against Seton Hall in game one. In the second inning, freshman infielder
Cloe' Ochoa singled to shortstop and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Coppin State scored their first run of the game on an error by the Pirates infielder as Ochoa crossed home plate trimming the Seton Hall advantage to 4-1.
Starting pitcher sophomore
Madison Didion went 4.0 innings pitched against the Pirates. She struck out two batters, walked two giving up eight hits. Sophomore
Dakota Gartrell took over in the fifth inning for the Eagles followed by freshman
Arianna Alderete midway through the fifth inning.
Defensively, sophomore first baseman
Megan Narvaez had six putouts followed by sophomore outfielder's
Melanie Benge's three. Junior catcher
Nicole Ullman, freshman second baseman
Patricia Soria and
Cloe' Ochoa all had two assists.
Seton Hall scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second inning and six in the fifth inning for the 10-1 victory.
The Eagles drew a season-high six walks in their second game of the doubleheader against Virginia Tech. The Hokies shutout the Eagles 10-0 with Coppin State recording only two hits.
Isabella Didio and
Megan Narvaez both were walked twice by Virginia Tech.
Melanie Benge and
Cayla Brown also drew walks while Brown and
Patricia Soria finished with one hit apiece.
Brown singled through the left side in the second inning and then in the fifth inning Soria singled through the right side.
Starting pitcher
Cloe' Ochoa went 3.2 innings and relief pitcher
Arianna Alderete ended the game tossing 1.1 innings.
Coppin State returns to the field on Sunday, February 26
th on the final day of the Pirate Invitational with a double header slated against Virginia at 11:45 a.m. and then against host East Carolina at 2 p.m.
