GREENEVILLE, N.C. – Coppin State finished with three hits including a pair of doubles in an 11-3 defeat to Virginia Tech on Friday, February 24
th in the Pirate Invitational at ECU Softball Stadium.
Defensively, the Eagles turned a season-best two double-plays against the Hokies. At the plate, sophomores
Megan Narvaez and
Hatika James both recorded double base hits and freshman Isabella Didio had her first career RBI.
In the fourth inning, Narvaez led off with a double to left-center field and later scored on a passed ball by the Hokies defense. In the fifth inning, freshman
Cloe' Ochoa got things rolling with single to right center field and then crossed home plate on an RBI double to center field by James. That was Ochoa's third run of the season. The Eagles advanced James to third base on an infield groundout and then Didio flied out to left field for a sacrifice fly out scoring James.
Virginia Tech closed the game in the sixth inning with a home run stretching their lead to 11-3.
Coppin State started sophomore
Madison Didion on the mound. Didion went 2.0 innings and then relief pitcher sophomore
Dakota Gartrell came in the third inning. Gartrell tied a career-high with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.
Freshman
Patricia Soria finished with four putouts along with sophomore
Cayla Brown.
The Eagles will play a double header tomorrow at the ECU Softball Stadium beginning with Seton Hall at 11:45 a.m. and then a rematch with Virginia Tech is slated for 4:15 p.m.
