BALTIMORE, Md. – The Eagles dropped their 2017 home opener to Marist 6-3 on Sunday, February 19th at the CSU Softball Field. Coppin State pounded out nine total hits with three doubles.
Coppin State falls to 1-7 overall record while Marist moves to 2-1.
Freshman infielder
Patricia Soria went 2-for-3 at the plate against Marist registering a season-high two hits including a double-base hit. Soria also recorded her first career RBI and scored her second run if the season. Sophomore infielder
Cayla Brown also had a pair of hits to pace the CSU offense.
Sophomore
Madison Didion pitched her second complete game of the season walking only two batters and striking out a season-best five. Defensively, freshman
Megan Narvaez tied a career-high with nine putouts at first base.
Marist scored three runs on three hits in the second inning jumping out to a 3-0 lead. The Eagles tied the game in the next inning matching the Red Foxes' three hits going for three runs.
Cayla Brown led the fourth inning off with a single up the middle. Freshman
Camille Nowak pinch ran for Brown and advanced to second on a single to right field by sophomore outfielder
Hatika James. Soria was next and blasted an RBI double to right-center field scoring Nowak for her first career run as an Eagle. Freshman infielder
Cloe' Ochoa grounded out with an RBI as James scored the Eagles second run. The Red Fox gave up the tying run on a wild pitch that allowed Soria to cross home plate with junior
Nicole Ullman registering the RBI.
The Red Foxes broke the 3-3 tie in the sixth inning with three runs on two hits and an error by the Eagles. Marist led the inning off with a double and then followed that up with another double to right-center field scoring two runs. The third run of the inning was scored on an error by the CSU infield capping a rough sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Soria had her second hit of the afternoon singling to right field. Coppin State failed to score another hit or a run suffering a loss in their 2017 home opener to Marist, 6-3.
